Believe: The Result of Experiencing God

As summer approaches, I am reminded of how different people interact with a swimming pool.   Some put their toe in the water, squeal, and then dance on the side for a few minutes before dipping in their whole foot.

Others head straight for the diving board, immersing themselves completely, even before they have any idea what they are getting into!

Belonging is the first step to Believing.  Believing is the result of "Getting wet." as we experience God's presence.

What we believe is not about what makes us feel good, or what we think might seem appealing, it is about the immersing of ourselves in God's character, Spirit, and activity.

When I spend time with the creator of the universe, I begin to see things the way God intended.  And the result is, that I begin to believe Who God is, What God says, and that it Matters to me.

I don't want to get hung up on debatable things (Does the New Testament exclude aliens as a possibility?  Who is the best TV preacher?).  I understand distinctives (Baptism by immersion or sprinkling?  The role of the Holy Spirit)   that help us work together in organizational and doctrinal unity.  But lets remember the main things.

Christ came to redeem us from the curse of sin and death.  Instead, he offers us eternal and abundant life, through himself.  And we respond with gratitude: God has a claim on me!

Believing is the decision that God, who is way beyond my comprehension, is worth my attention.
